School Fundraiser: Ballou Senior High School In Need Of Donations To Help Provide Students With Books!

Aside from posting daily celebrity news stories, Theballerlife.com would also like to take time out and raise awareness for some organizations in need of charity donations.

Recently, we sat down with Mrs. Melissa Jackson, a Librarian at Ballou Senior High School, and discussed some of the problems her school is having in regards to library books.

The Problem:

Currently, the senior high school has a total of 1,150 books, which is approximately one book per student. The national recommended book to student ratio is 11:1 for high schools. With far less than what is recommended, the school is in great need of assistance to help build our collection.

Mrs. Jackson is requesting your support for an upcoming fundraising event. On January 29, 2011, Ballou Senior High School and the Friends of Ballou will host a Bowl-A-Thon at Lucky Strike in Washington, DC.

Mrs. Jackson says the purpose of the event is to raise funds and friends that will help their school strike out the ‘barriers to high school success’ that our students regularly experience. The event will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Mrs. Jackson is currently looking for individual donors and/or team sponsors for the library team. Sponsors and donors will be recognized via television, radio and printed media outreach throughout the months of January and February 2011. Additionally, sponsors and patrons will be listed on the new Ballou Senior High School website beginning in February 2011.

Mrs. Jackson’s fundraising goal is to raise $10,000. She says, “In order to achieve this ambitious goal, I need you as a sponsor to contribute toward the cause of striking out the barriers to high school success for the students with whom I come in contact each day.”

The donations of this event will directly benefit the library and provide high-quality books and technology resources for the students. All donations are tax-deductible under the law.

Mrs. Jackson would love to get the opportunity to speak with anyone interested in attending the Bowl-A-Thon.

Feel free to contact her via email or telephone at Melissa.Jackson@dc.gov. Online credit card donations accepted at www.cfncr.org. Click “Donate Now” at top of page and specifyFriends of Ballouin the drop-down menu.
