Check out this interesting “open discussion” video from a writer named Ree titled, “The(Ree)lationship Guide: Single Moms, Father’s Day is NOT Your Day,” which offers some advice to single mothers who wish each other Happy Father’s Day.
In this video, Ree explains what she was saying in her article about why single moms don’t need to reclaim Father’s Day.
Using the interesting hashtag #YouDontHaveaPenis, she explains why women should not be tempted to believe that they are adequate substitutes for productive male role models.
She says that single parents should find good role models for their kids of the opposite s*x and that the way you talk about your child’s father is as much a reflection of yourself as it is of the man you are discussing.
Ree discusses 3 things in detail about what single mothers should remember:
1) Your child is not “your” baby.
2) Banning your child from interacting with their father is hurting the child, and over time, will eventually lead you to shooting yourself in the foot.
3) The person you chose to create a life with is a reflection of you.
