Check out this heartfelt-tear jerker story about a newlywed couple named Maurese Miller and Tomya Goffney Miller, who were united in matrimony Saturday … until death do them part.

Unfortunately for these newlyweds, they know that time will come sooner rather than later, because Tomya has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer and only has
just days, weeks, and maybe a month at best to live, according her doctors.

The two met online and started a relationship a couple of years ago, according to Mamie Gamble, who says Tomya is her “spiritual” daughter. Tomya, who lives in Bear, served as Gamble’s valet during ministry. Gamble is a minister with the New Destiny Christian Fellowship.

“When she told me she met him online, I was so upset,” Gamble said. “Then later when she told me she was pregnant, I just about had a fit.”

It was during her pregnancy that Tomya, 36, learned she had Stage 4 colon cancer.

Gamble’s worries grew. Was Maurese Miller good enough for Tomya? Would he be there for her or would he cut and run?

Maurese Jr. was born in January 2013. He was a few weeks premature – Gamble wasn’t sure exactly how early – but has developed into a healthy young boy. He’s the spitting image of his dad, but Maurese Jr. has more hair.

Tomya’s health, on the other hand, has not improved. Gamble said doctors have told them it’s just a matter of time at this point: days, weeks, a month.

Tomya remained in Christiana Hospital on Sunday, being treated for her cancer in the same room where she and Maurese were married Saturday. The date for their wedding had been set before Tomya’s condition worsened. But that wasn’t about to stop them.

“Her wish was fulfilled and the hospital made it happen for them,” Gamble said.
