1. At the age of 19, Ralph obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1972 from Rutgers University. She was the youngest woman to ever graduate from that school.

2. In 1973, Sheryl Lee Ralph was crowned Miss Black Teen-age New York.

3. After giving her commencement address in May 2008, Ralph was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Tougaloo College.

4. Ralph initially hoped to study medicine but then she changed her mind and opted for performing arts after she dealt with cadavers in a pre-med class and won a scholarship in a competition at the American College Theater Festival.

5. In 1972, Sheryl Lee Ralph was named by Glamour magazine as one of the top ten college women in America.
