In case you didn’t now, Ellen Degeneres launched a weeks’ long nationwide search for the next CoverGirl on her show, and Alexis Harris, a junior co-ed attending the University of Texas at San Antonio, who had no idea she won the contest, beat out more than 20,000 applicants to become the new face.

Degeneres helped the cosmetics’ giant search for the next “easy, breezy” face through her popular talk show asking candidates to submit a letter explaining why they’d be perfect for the job.
Degeneres announced Harris’ name on Thursday’s show. Harris was in the audience when the announcement was made with several of the student’s family members sitting on the Ellen set in preparation for a make-believe press conference — Ellen-style — that came soon after.
Harris, who is from Killeen, received a $20,000 check and will appear in an ad in People magazine. Degeneres told Harris that next month they would shoot a Cover Girl ad together.
