TNT’s David Aldridge spent some time with former NBA star turned assistant coach Brian Shaw as he tells his personal story of his painful journey through family tragedy and triumph to possibly obtaining one of sport’s most highly recognized coaching positions.
In July 1993, both of Shaw’s parents and his sister were killed in an auto accident in Nevada. His sister’s daughter survived the crash and Shaw, with help from his wife Nikki and aunt, helped raise his niece.
As Lakers head coach Phil Jackson closes the door on a legendary NBA coaching career, the already groomed heir, Shaw, is ready to step in and take the throne.
In our opinion, Brian Shaw is the best choice to replace Phil Jackson as the Los Angeles Lakers’ next coach. We will be rooting for you Brian!
