Meet Lia Camara Edwards, wife of former NFL player and Head Coach Herman Edwards. The two met in 1994 on a plane while he was an assistant coach for the Chiefs and she worked for the NCAA in sports management. Lia and Herman married in 2000. Lia and Herman have two daughters Gabrielle and Vivian. Edwards has a son Marcus from a previous relationship.
Herman says, I’ve been blessed to have a wife like Lia.” “She’s always upbeat and positive. She always reminds me I’m a good coach and not to forget it.” When Herman was a NFL head coach, Lia would accompany her husband on all road trips, sit with him on the plane, and greet him when he came out of the locker room after the game.
Lia Edwards battle with diabetes:
Lia, who is 39, found out she had diabetes in her late 20’s. Lia is a Type 1 diabetic. Due to her diabetes, Lia had very complicated pregnancies. Prior to the birth of their 2 current children, Lia and Herman suffered to 2 miscarriages due to her diabetes.
Herman Edwards NFL Career:
As a NFL player, Herman Edwards was a cornerback for Philadelphia Eagles (1977-85), Los Angeles Rams (1986), and Atlanta Falcons (1986).
Herman was a Head Coach for the New York Jets (2001-05) and Kansas City Chiefs (2006-2008).
