Theballerlife.com has learned that former Atlanta Braves star Andruw Jones was arrested on a battery charge for allegedly attacking his wife Nicole Derick Jones on Christmas.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:
According to an incident report obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Nicole Jones told officers she and Andruw had hosted a Christmas party Tuesday night and that Jones had consumed several alcoholic beverages.
After the party, she told Jones that they needed to prepare the house for Christmas morning and asked him to help her assemble a computer table, the police report stated.
According to the report, Nicole Jones said Andruw became belligerent as they worked on the desk and grabbed her by the left arm. She pulled away and attempted to go upstairs, according to the report, but Jones grabbed her by the ankle, pulled her down and put his hands around her neck and said, “I want to kill you, I want to [expletive] kill you.”
Nicole Jones said she was able to get away and went to the home of her parents, who live nearby. Police said when they questioned Andruw Jones about the incident, he denied hurting his wife.
The police report said Nicole Jones had “visible injuries” after the incident.
According to Gwinnett County Detention Center records, Jones was released from jail on $2,400 bond.
Ironically, the former baseball star was a supporter of a local domestic violence organization, Jadden’s Ladder. The Journal-Constitution interviewed Andruw and Nicole back in 2010 to discuss their work with the organization. The couple donated $75,000 to Jadden’s Ladder back in 2008.
Jones earlier this month signed a $3.5 million, one-year contract with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League.
Andruw and Nicole Derrick married on November 23rd, 2002. Nicole gave birth to their son back in 2004.
Nicole Derick Jones, who hails from Marietta, Georgia, holds a degree in fashion merchandise from Bauder Fashion College.
Nicole…with the help from her business partner, Chantel Watkins, created her own jewelry collection in April, 2009 called “Honesty.”
