Gabrielle Union met Chris Howard at a party in 1999 in Jacksonville, Florida. After two years of dating, the former couple married on May 5th, 2001, but ended up getting separated in 2005 after four years of marriage. In April 2006, their divorce was made final.
Even though her divorce from Chris was very difficult, Gabrielle admits it could have been much worse. During an 2008 interview with NYPOST.com, Gabrielle said, “Chris and I became closer than we were when we were a couple,” she says. “We never turned on each other, like a lot of couples do, either. Instead, we had these painfully brutal conversations about what we each did wrong. It’s so easy to point the finger at someone else, but you also have to accept blame for the messed-up things you did. We were both like, ‘Damn, I really jacked this up!’ ” Gabrielle faults the end of their marriage on the two of them “forgetting about basic kindness,” she says. “It’s as simple as remembering what you were taught in kindergarten: be nice, share, compromise. But all of that flew out the window.”
Chris Howard is currently retired from the NFL. Chris was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 1998 NFL Draft. After a difficult pre-season, he was released by Broncos after playing only two games. Shortly after being released, Chris was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. After playing three years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chris retired from football in 2001.
Since the divorce, Gabrielle has been getting cozy with NBA star Dwayne Wade. Sources say Gabrielle and Dwayne are an item.
