The late Rodney King’s fiancée, Cynthia Kelley, spoke out recently about why she did not jump in and try to save him in the pool when she saw his body floating at the bottom around 5:30 a.m. on June 17th 2012.
Kelley stated:
“I’m not a great swimmer.”
Kelley reported that she had talked to King, who was outside at the time, through a sliding-glass door before going to bed alone around 2 a.m. Later she stated that she heard a splash and went out to investigate when she found him at the bottom of the pool.
Sandra Gardea, 31, was King’s next door neighbor. When she was investigated she stated that around 3 or 3:30am she heard commotion and then someone weeping. “It just sounded like someone was really sad,” she said. “There was a lot of moaning and crying. Another person was trying to console that person.” Police are still trying to find what caused King to just sink to the bottom of the pool, whether he was knocked out or had a medical emergency while swimming hasn’t been released to the public yet.
The hours leading to Rodney King’s death, Kelley has been telling her friends that King had been smoking marijuana and had spent the day at the house all day drinking.
