Why Are So Many Successful Black Women Single? Lets take a look!

Forty-two percent of  U.S. black women have never been married, double the number of white women who’ve never tied the knot.

For starters, there are 1.8 million more black women than black men. So even if every black man in America married a black woman today, one out of 12 black women still wouldn’t make it down the aisle if they hoped to marry a black man.

Let’s take 100 black men. By the time you eliminate those without a high school diploma (21 percent), the unemployed (17 percent) and those ages 25-34 who are incarcerated (8 percent), you have only half of black men, 54 percent, whom many black women find acceptable.

  1. @bigmoneymike. I beg to differ. Perhaps the type of black women say you attract are gold diggers, but for you to make such a blanket statement about all black women is ignorant. Maybe you should look within and find out what’s wrong with you. Most of the black women I know wouldn’t give you the time of day because they are well-educated, professional, independent women who don’t depend on any man (much less a white one)to support them. Since you went there, the founders of Gold DIgger Academy are white women. For the minority of black women who are gold diggers, they got their undergraduate degrees from your white women’s academy, led by white doctors of philosophy (ph.d’s)in Gold Diggerism

  2. @ Lisa. Paying one’s own bills, buying one’s own clothes, etc., without depending on someone else (man or woman)to do it for you is not only a source of pride, but it also give you a sense of empowerment, freedom and independence. You apparently take this for granted. Of course, a lot of people pay around the world pay their own bills and whatnot; a lot of people around the world also fail to pay their own bills as well. Gone are tthe days when women have to be in a relationship and remain in an unhealthy relationship just because they are dependent on a man. That’s liberating.

  3. Black women need to find their love language and understand the dialect of their man and then they will begin to see true live in their life

  4. Allot of attitude, and too much emphasis on them being able to get by on their own. It’s sad to see really. I have two neighbors both Single black women, and both are single parents with a teenage son each. I see how hard they are on their sons, and rules over rides anything else in their sons lives. Both think that since they are paying their own bills, or have careers they are some how empowered. Since when does paying electricity, phone, or rent a badge of pride? All women and men around the world pay bills because it is a necessity, and nothing more.

We eat so we must cook.

But some how black women have to treat this normal daily aspect of life as if it is a badge of honor that only they can achieve. Today most people can no longer sew, weave, cook, tailor, or even not know how to cook. Most people don’t even know where their food comes from, and cannot even grow a flower, much less know how tomatoes are grown, so they some how think paying their own bills is their point of success in life.

Life is far too complicated than that, and since money making has become the high point of confidence most feel that their is no need for a man, or a father in a child’s life. I hear my two neighbors ranting and raving over how they can make it by, and who the hell needs a man. At the same time they’re always complaining about being single. I think those two thoughts are the very source of conflict that is keeping black women single.

  5. What I think is funny , is that the girl who did this story was sleeping with one of the football players on the falcons, who has a family. So how can you really get on TV and do a show about African American women and being single when at the time you did the piece, you where being a mistress. I really dont get why women act so dumb when you are the reason why you are single. How do you ever think you will get blessed when you do things like that. Flying to vegas to sneak around with a football player who has a family…ummmmm yea thats why you are not married

  6. Folks,

This is not going to be appreciated but Black women and women of all flavors devalue themselves when they have children by fathers who don’t think enough of them to commit to marriage. Not only that, women set the moral standard in most relationships. Who wants to marry some skank with 2 or 3 kids by different unknown fathers? Come on.

This is a really lousy situation for children, too. Kids from one-parent families don’t just suffer from lack of finances, they absorb the lifestyle. Then, when they grow up, it is ok for them in their own bent minds to live the same crummy, lowdown lifestyles. It is not good. How do you raise a people out of that? It is unfair, but in the big picture, it is really up to the women. Maybe nobody can help who they fall in love with, but everybody can help whose children they have and under what circumstances they are born.

So raise the bar high, ladies, because that determines the calibur of men you will allow in your lives.
