Theballerlife.com just heard some really sad news about a recently married couple in Atlanta. Retired NFL player Chris Draft, 35, lost his lovely wife Keasha Rutledge-Draft to cancer one month after they were married.

Get all the sad details below:

“The fairytale came to an end Tuesday–one month to the day of their wedding–as Keasha (Rutledge) Draft lost her battle with cancer, a longtime friend of Chris’ has confirmed to TheYBF.com.”

“35-year-old Chris Draft married the love of his life, Keasha, in a touching ceremony November 27th in Atlanta. The bride was battling cancer and used a wheelchair to meet her groom down the aisle. But amazingly walked the last few steps.”

Draft released a statement about his wife on his family foundation website.

He wrote:

“Not just an inspiration, but a light, and a force that led the way with a beautiful, sweet smile and bright shining eyes that both belied the pure steel of her strength and determination.

Strong is too pale, too shallow and too small of a word to describe Keasha’s vibrancy… Quite simply, she was ferocious. She fiercely held onto life, and love with a forcefulness that was absolutely awe-inspiring and completely breathtaking. Rest in peace, Mrs. Draft.”

Chris Draft played 12 years in the NFL with several teams including:  Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, St. Louis Rams, and Buffalo Bills. He last played for the Washington Redskins in 2010.

Draft’s spokesperson, Sidmel Estes, said the funeral services will be held in South Carolina on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Atlanta at 1 p.m.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Draft family during this sad and difficult time. God bless you two and your family.
